We are a small, friendly social group which is run by widows for all widowed people in Yorkshire.
Currently our member’s ages range from 50+ onwards. We are an all inclusive group and make no distinction between race, religion, social or marital status. Anyone who is the surviving partner of a relationship is eligible to join.
At our meetings we have a variety of guest speakers, and we recently purchased our own film projector. We have quizzes, games (bingo, beetle drives, Play Your Cards Right etc.) raffles, tea/coffee, cake, and biscuits. We also have coach/cinema/restaurant trips and, most importantly, a lot of laughs.
The group has been in existence since 1975 when it was set up as a branch of the National Association of Widows. Recently we have become the Yorkshire Widowed Social Group so that we can offer more social facilities for those living within our own Yorkshire area.
We meet from 2 o’clock to 4 o’clock on the 1st and 3rd Sunday afternoons of each month (Excluding holidays). Our meetings are held on the first floor of Centenary House which is the headquarters of the Leeds Society for Deaf and Blind People, and used to house the Leeds Dispensary.
Membership for the year is £15.00 and the entrance charge payable at the door is £1.00 per meeting.
